Reclaiming Spiritual Practices

Returning to the Sacred seeks to reclaim indigenous healing practices

that have been appropriated and commercialized as key elements of our practice and community culture.

We recognize that accessing the Sacred requires a specific container led by indigenous leaders who are prepared to hold space for new/old paradigms to be realized. In some places this work will require releasing of practices that create separation like categorizing, analyzing or problem solving.

We also realize that it will require a renaming of some things as we create new language, models and understanding that blends current realities with ancient traditions and practices. Some of the practices that form the foundation of this work have been referred to as somatic practices, expressive arts, and collective grief ritual.

This is a safe place to relearn our selves as we invite you to reimagine these practices as essential elements within a culture of restoration - a restoration and reclaiming of sacred relationship with ourselves, our ancestors, the Earth and all of Creation.

Ancestral Healing

Ancestral Healing as offered here often involves guided meditation using music and sound, visual symbols and indigenous practices and teachings.

Ancestral Healing does not require that you know your ancestors - they know you. Ancestral Healing is done with well and loving ancestors who are available to help and support your growth and healing.

Ancestral Healing is not limited to biological ancestors or humans and can be done with non-human ancestors such as a place, animal, or element such as water or fire, or other spiritual energy or entity such as angels or helping spirits.

Somatic & Embodiment Practices

Somatic or embodiment practices could be thought of as engaging the body and the bodie's inherent wisdom in healing processes.

In this program they are gentle, indigenous style movements that do not require skill, equipment or a level of "fitness".

We incorporate ancient movements of the Earth and our ancestors such as gentle shaking, sighing, and belly breathing.

Through sound and rhythm we make "music" and explore our relationship with the unseen melody that connects us in time as community and family.

Science is validating the importance of these practices in trauma recovery, for depression and anxiety, physical and emotional resilience and overall well being and happiness.

We have experienced these practices as important entry points to emotional and spiritual intelligence and reclaiming our spiritual language with our human and non-human ancestors.

Transformational
Earth Based Practices

Transformational practice may be thought of as opportunities to shift perspectives, belief systems, emotions or embodied memory. The methods we use can be ritual, meditation, healing song/sound, expressive arts, or writing. Here again, science is validating what our ancestors have always known. These practices may be considered healing and transformational for the ancestors within our own bones and for our children's children's children as we become well resourced ancestors and are available to leave these symbols of our transformation for future generations.

Nature Practices

Most of us can attest to the power of a beautiful sunset and the way that it transforms us beyond words or language. In this program we will have several opportunities to engage and sit with and heal with nature, the Earth and all of our non-human relations. Again these practices do not require particular skills or a level of fitness only a willingness to open ourselves up to the layers of wisdom and intelligence present in our natural environments.
